Wandering Southwest is a travel book series about the Southwest state National Monuments. The books focus on Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. They include information about what to enjoy, the history, local eateries and hotels, and other information about the tourist spot. These also contain hand drawn illustrations.
For the covers of the books, I wanted them to look pleasing to the eye if they were sitting on a book shelf in a store or in someone's living room. I went for a bright and bold color scheme so they look cohesive. I drew the scenery for each cover in graphite pencil, scanned it, and then added color overlays.
The layouts of the books took a while to figure out. I knew I wanted to include illustration work that supports the information in an interactive way. The content for each book was all researched by me. The details of the book have a hand drawn effect done in pencil and in illustrator. These books replicate someone's travel journal that they want to share with the world.
